Snape is clearly one of the most fascinating of the characters
because he's so enigmatic. Here are some thoughts on him that ran
through my head this morning.

While I think it's somewhat plausible, it seems to me that it's
something more complex than that. My guess is that Rowling will not
reveal the cause of the hatred until book 6 or 7. What's curious to
me is why Snape was the one casting the countercurse during the
Quidditch match in Book 1? With all those witches and wizards there,
they all must have been aware that Harry's broom was jinxed. Why
didn't DD or McGonagall cast the countercurse? Does this mean that
there's some sort of schedule in place for protecting Harry?

Again, while plausible it seems like it would be something more.
Whatever Snape did it had to be something that proved without a doubt
to DD that Snape was now loyal to the good side. And he had to do
something more than just convert from being a Voldemort loyalist.
Afterall, many current DE's are pretending to be converts but I'm
sure DD sees right through them. Whatever it was it makes me wonder
where Snape is ranked on Voldemort's hit list. But what did Snape do
to gain DD's undying confidence? Or is it a ruse? Maybe Snape is a
double agent and DD is feeding him information to set a trap for
Voldemort in Book 7 that would lead to his final demise. I toyed
with that idea but I don't really believe it to be true.

Clearly I have more questions than answers!
