Hi
Hmmm, actually I dont see those two instances as examples of pride.
Pig headedness yes :)pride no.
In the case of the fight with Harry Ron was basically hurt. He
thought Harry had come up with a sure fire way of bamboozling the
Goblet of Fire and didnt share the adventure with him. It was a fit
of sulks that went on too long.
With Hermione its a whole different emotion. Not pride but jealousy.
If he had kept a hold on his pride he would have gone out of his way
to pretend that seeing her with Krum didnt bother him at all.
No I meant his pride in not accepting gifts even from his friend.
See, the post i was replying to (sorry dont remember poster)suggested
the hypothesis that Ron desires wealth so he will be tempted over to
the dark side. My contention is that if Ron is greedy or 'obsessed
with wealth' as another poster put it a while back, he would not be
averse to accepting gifts. Infact he would exploit Harry's genrosity
to the full. The fact that he is so sensitive about taking, what he
percieves as charity points to his pride and self respect.

Excuse me. Is this canon? I dont recall any specific mention to Rons
grades being poor, infact the perception i recieve is that he and
Harry are pretty much at par academically -not brillliant, but not
touching the bottom either. Surely if his grades were less than
acceptable we would have seen Molly saying something about it.
Remember her blasting the twins?

Ok i went and reread the chapter on Unforgivables. It specifically
states that Harry was the only one able to resist Imperious. We see
the lingering effects on Ron because he is the one 'on screen' right
then. I bet Neville had a worse time shaking it off.

Lucky you
Shaggy (who will have a long, painful wait for Oop...sigh)
