OK, I have been totally hung up lately on trying to figure out the
improtance of ghosts and the Phoenix (both relating to death) in the
HP series. JKR dosen't seem to include things that are not
absolutely necessary in later books and the presence of ghosts and
the Phoenix are everywhere. So, here are my thoughts:
People become ghosts when they are murdered (leaving room for
a nice family reunion and the possibility for Cedric to be back at
Hogwarts)
Next point, Fawkes has been in every one of the books and a lot of
the book's time has been used to teach about the Phoenix
(continuously reborn, what that process looks like, feathers, tears,
etc). And we know that the next book is called OoP, so it is no
great mystery that all of that was important. So, here are my
thoughts about their importance:
1. OoP may refer to this Old Group which has, themselves, risin
from the ashes and been reborn over and over again, living very long
lives (including Dumbledore).
2. We have seen that wizzards can do this because Volde did it.
3. The big question is...So what?
Thought I would come out of lurkdom,
Melanie
