Just a my (Ginger)perspective, here, but maybe the point is that it 
*sounded* something like Mimblewimble.  If Hagrid had completed 
enough coursework to know about it, or had just picked it up in 
passing, he may have had a psychological reaction to it and fluffed 
the spell thinking he had been cursed to do just that.

Or maybe he's just not a very good wizard.

Ginger, who would like to take this opportunity to thank those who 
have been using the OoP prefix.  Those of us with our hands over our 
ears singing "I'm Henry the VIII" appreciate it!
