Am I remembering incorrectly, but wasn't Dumbledore the
Transfiguration professor prior to his becoming Headmaster? (I don't
have my books in front of me but it would likely be checked in CoS
when Harry was dealing inside the diary with Riddle or talking to him
in the Chamber) If this is the case then I feel like it is definately
quite likely that he is some sort of Anamagi. But what?... Where that
is very probable, I also don't believe that this is the extent of his
seemingly omnipotent abilities (yes I know there are things that get
past him Crouch/Moody for one, but it seems that not mubch does) For
example he says in SS in the room with the Mirror of Erasid that he
doesn't need an invisibility cloak. Granted we don't see how he
arrives, or if he was there the whole time, so this could support the
anamagi theory. But in CoS when he and Fudge visit Hagrid to take him
off to Askaban, he seemingly knows Ron and Harry are there under the
cloak, he isn't in anamagi form there...
But, and I just thought of this while I was typing, if the
invisibility cloak doesn't work on animals (Harry's often wondered if
Mrs Norris can see him under the cloak) then do the wizards that
become anamagi keep some of those animal qualities when they are in
wizard form? Meaning, if Dumbledore was an anamagi that could see
through invisibility cloaks, could he as Dumbledore the wizard see
through the cloak because of that? More Solid example... If Peter is a
Rat, and Rats have a heightened sense of smell, does Peter then have a
hightened sense of smell? either becasue he can change into a rat, or
is that a determining factor in him turning into a rat bacuse of this
pre existing trait? That said, if a wizard can become an anamagi, can
a wizard become more than one anamagi (not at the same time of
course)? (realizing of course that that would be even more advanced
magic than just the single animal) Or if someone's characteristics
change somehow, could that affect the animal they would turn into? If
Rita had a change of heart and wasn't necessary for her to bug
anymore, could she possibly morph into a different animal when she
went to transform? (neven happen, but it was an example) That said,
how much of an inkling do the wizards that study to be anamagi have of
what they may turn into? I've always gotten the impression that they
didn't exacty "chose" their form, much the same that Harry didn't
chose the form of his patronomus.
Just speculation and questions trying to pass the time before midnight
on Friday...
