Linda -
I deleted some of your analysis about the Karkaroff/Krum connection, but I
think you hit the target dead center about their relationship. I think that
Karkaroff has been pampering and trying to stay attached to Krum because
Krum's a celebrity already - no other reason. I think that Krum, who seems
basically to be a nice and polite boy if somewhat reticent around most
people (probably due somewhat to an innate sense that he doesn't want
sycophants around him all the time), has put up with Karkaroff because he's
the headmaster, and he probably was raised to be polite to his elders (while
a tiny bit gruff at times, he basically has good manners - he goes and talks
directly to Harry, politely, about his connection with Hermione, instead of
engaging in any of the other posturing displays some teenaged males might
do, or trying to make him look bad), so Karkaroff is his elder in a position
of authority over him - he certainly isn't chatting him up all the time nor
returning the attentions in kind. I think he really does have Karkaroff's
measure - probably, again, being down inside his own world and only having
information and resources he's had so far, there may not have been a need to
"do" anything about Karkaroff so far - and he may figure he's out of school
soon anyway, he can put up with this sycophant for a bit longer, and why
piss him off needlessly? Krum does not seem to believe in burning bridges
without due cause, but I'll bet that if someone was proven to him to be a
"baddie" he'd be really firm about having nothing more to do with them.
