Hi I am thinking that this relates well to an online JKR interveiw I 
read not long ago. Please excuse my vagueness in what I recall, It 
was something along the lines of socks are important to the story?

In the same quote there was also a mention of cats being a bit of a 
clue too. JK in addition to this mentioned that she disliked cats. So 
look at the cats through eyes of disdain perhaps?
