A few years ago I started reading PS in Portuguese, but after a 
couple of chapters tossed it away... I HATED it!! The writing was 
just so annoyingly childish that I couldn't stand it, and besides the 
translation was rather poor. OK, I'm hardly the most objective person 
on this subject, as I do some english-portuguese free-lance 
translations and I'm not exactly a praiser of portuguese professional 
translators' work, but still... I put the books aside until I could 
find english copies (after reading those first chapters I wasn't 
about to spend money on buying the books myself ;-)).

Anyway, a friend of mine lent me the Bloomsbury edition, and I read 
the 4 books in less than one week. I was smitten. I still am... But 
my point is, after reading the books I was even more sadden with the 
portuguese translation. Maybe I'm being unfair, JK's style is 
probably very very difficult to translate, but maybe stricter quality 
standards for translations should be implemented.

Anyway, I've been using my 4 english copies ever since to spread 
Harry Potter around, the real Harry Potter (as real as he can be...), 
JK ought to pay me a comission ;-)
