Too bad that that particular ending has been done before.
Does "Frankenstein" come to mind?
When Agatha Christie killed off Poirot, I remember reading that it
was because she didn't want anyone else to write about him. The
situation is different for James Bond. Fleming probably never knew
what a gold mine that "franchise" would become.
IMHO, I don't think that AOL-Time Warner would really let her kill
Harry off. He makes them too much money. Who would want another
Lego set or Hogwarts calendar after book 7 if Harry comes to some
gruesome end? It is my understanding that she has sold all
publishing and movie rights for all 7 books. Even though she is the
author, she still needs to answer to editors, publishers and (dare I
say it) stockholders. She probably has superior legal
representation and has forbidden anyone else to pick up the saga and
run with it after she's finished, which is as it should be. But I
don't think she can be completely free to choose how the story will
end.
