That's definately overanalysing it. 
Christian faith is not just about Jesus dying, you know? There's 
forgiving your enemies, trust, truthfulness, redemption... many 
other things.

Plus, wouldn't such a plot be totally in contradiction with the 
entire story portrayed so far?
