Shawn,
Based on the responses already posted, I think you can see that you
are certainly not alone. I have an 11 year old son that thinks I am
nuts with how involved I am with the series of books. As a matter of
fact, I am dragging the whole family down to a party tonite in costume
just to get into the spirit of things.
For those who are not used to fandom (the domain of being a fan of a
specific fiction) it's difficult to make that leap from the "real"
world we inhabit into this "make believe" world. I personally look at
it this way - I am fascinated by interacting with a group of people
that has the HP books as their common interest. Given my profession
and hobbies I doubt that I would encounter a lot of these people in
the normal course of my life, so this give me a chance to meet people
that I would not have normally met. Plus the fact that we will all be
speaking the same language (HP) tonite will make the interactions that
much more interesting.
