During V-mort War I, there was a great deal of uncertainty and 
mistrust among the Forces of Light.  Remus and Sirius both admit in 
PoA to thinking the other was the traitor.  Speculation has been 
raised that perhaps part of why Remus was suspected was because he 
was a werewolf.  

The Black tapestry shows that Regulus died 15 years ago.  If we work 
from JKR's statement that Snape (and thus I'm assuming Sirius) was 35 
or 36 after Gof, then Regulus died when Sirius was 20 or 21, shortly 
before Sirius was sent to Azkaban. I wonder now if part of the reason 
Sirius was suspected was because his younger brother was a DE, 
although you'd think that Remus, knowing Sirius' history with his 
family, including leaving home at 16, would discount that theory.  
Still, if the war was going badly at the time, might not the thought 
that the son of a pure-blood family might opt to join what looked 
like the winning side?
