Maybe he didn't even have to make an effort to open up Harry's mind to prove
his loyalty?  Maybe he knew that an aftereffect of the lessons would be to
make Harry slightly more vulnerable than normal?  Although Harry might not
have had as many problems with it if he had actually done what Snape told
him to do and try to clear his mind before he went to sleep.

Another related thought to this is that Snape told Harry that he would know
if Harry had not been practicing this.  Maybe he would know because he
himself would be trying to work on Harry while he was asleep.  Personally, I
don't think this is the case, but it is just a thought.  Personally, I don't
think Snape was trying to open Harry's mind to Voldemort at all, but was
genuinely trying to teach Harry how to keep his thoughts closed off from
Voldemort.
