I'm not sure about this. I think in In OoP we see something a little
different. I think Snape has a deep desire to help Draco because of
his past with the James Gang.
He still sees Harry as being very like James. He does not see that
Harry may look like James, but is more like his mother than father.
He does not deliberately go out and look to "have fun" by cursing and
teasing other students. James and Sirius did. They bothered Snape
just because they were bored. Teen fun--not bad kids, but silly
still. However, Harry and friends are not like this.
Malfoy however is very like Severus at that age. He too has
difficulties with his parents--he too is someone who was raised in a
very Slytherin like family. He like many teens listen to what their
parents say, and live by it. He believes what his parents tell
him...Mudbloods, halfbreeds....
I think Snape feels a comaraderie with Malfoy. He does not wish him
to have as a difficult time in school as he did.
