Hiya Jeffd,
I think your question is a great one. I have a possible answer, and
I would love to hear what others think about it!
In the prophecy it also mentions that the child will have a power
that the other does not. We know that this power is Love. (Both
Harry and Neville have this!!!...but different idea...another
post...).
I don't think the wands will have anything to do with the distruction
of Voldemort. I think that love will be V's downfall, not the
wands. Love is a powerful magic as we have seen so far. Voldemort
is incapable of it.
