Jeff,
Yes!  In book 4 Voldemort did touch Harry.  This protection is now 
gone--he actually has Lily's blood running in his vains just like 
Harry does.  So, nope.  Can't be that.
And in book 5 ...Voldie once again touches Harry.  He tries to kill 
him.  
What made Voldie release his grip?  What was Harry thinking about 
when this death grip was let go?  It was thoughts of love.
