OotP: Harry's Family (minor spoiler)

Near the end of the book DD tells Harry that as long as he 
goes "home" to his family (the Dursleys)once a year, V can't hurt 
him, that he will be safe.

How literally are we supposed to take this?  Is Harry ever in real 
danger from V?  This might indicate that only in Book 7 Harry's life 
will really be threatened by V, since chances are he will start his 
job after year 7 and thus "not" return home that year.

This bothers me.  It bothered me yesterday when I read it and its 
bothering me even more today.  

Any thoughts?
