My turn! Dumbledore, when referring to the Dursleys', and I don't
care what Dumbledore says, I refuse to refer to that place as
Harry's home, I believe meant that he was untouchable there, and as
a child that was immensely important. Also apparently, he had Ms.
Figg and others looking after him as child (Diggle had shown up
before he went to Hogwarts, along with others in major Muggle
areas). As he's grown and gone to school, that has become less and
more important. Harry can protect himself to a degree now, but I
think Dumbledore basically wanted a safe haven for Harry when he
wasn't in the wizarding world. While Harry was completely on his
own, in other words. And honestly, I'm hoping that it will be a
moot point after book seven, considering that's the end of the
series (that's all JKR plans to write), and if Voldemort isn't
history by then, I shall be slightly miffed. And if Harry does
manage to defeat Voldemort in his seventh year, what moron would try
to fight him afterwards anyway?
