I think what we get when we read JKR is her imagination on the page.
If she imagines this huge shoot out in her head, then she describes
it in the intricate detail on the page. HP probably always plays
like a movie in her head, she just has the ability to describe it
brilliantly.
For massive action sequences, we're always going to have to deal with
description palying catch up to the action.
For the record, I loved that section - I needed to read it twice, but
it worked so well the 2nd time round.
