immediate grounds for being sent to Azkaban? Granted, Harry
felt 'righteous anger", but still.....

I assumed that since Harry did not really want to cast the Crucio
spell (and hence was not able) this was forgiven.

Maybe one of the DE hit Ron with a rictusempra charm, since one of
them also hit Neville (I think it was him) with a tarantallegra charm.
At least I think it was something like that.

extra credit during his Owls? I understand that it was meant as
extra credit, but would they ask the other students to do something
similar? I think Harry will be tapped to have something to do with
Dementors later on....

I think because they were so impressed with the fact that a 15
yearold student could do it. A lot of emphasis is made though on
Harry being able to perform a Patronus Charm (see also students in th
DA group), so maybe you will be right. I just didn't read any more
into it.

that contained a power "more terrible than death..." and that Harry
possesses "...in such quantities". What is that power or force??

I think it is the power to go to the world of the dead and return
(see one of my other posts as well)
