Sympa:
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I can't remember any line of the 5 
books mentioning that Snape himself was a Slytherin. Yes , he hang 
around with a gang of Slytherins , but would this prevent him from 
being a Ravenclaw or even a Gryffindor ?
I actually could see him as one of those rather than as a real 
Slytherin. He probably started to make friends in Slytherin when he 
finally realized that the students in his own house would never stop 
rejecting him.

Me:
He's also the Head of Slytherin, and the natural assumption would be that he had been IN Slytherin. I can't figure him having a gang of Slytherins when he wasn't one himself. There's very little cross-pollination, as it were, of that size between houses.
