OK.  In GoF (I think), Dumbledore said that he didn't know if there 
was enough of Voldemort's true self left for him to die.  What if, 
when TR went through all those transformations Dumbledore talked 
about, he actually created a kind of 'golem-soul', which represented 
his evil self?  When his curse on baby Harry backfired, his *real* 
soul passed on (beyond the Veil) and what was left was the unnatural 
magical creation, which was the only spirit that inhabited the re-
animated body of LV.

What if part of the purpose of the Veil is to retrieve the soul of 
Tom Riddle?
