Do you think this has anything to do with Voldemort, for lack of a
better word, "tampering" with Harry's mind (using Legilimency)? It
almost seems to me that, as this book progresses, LV and Harry are
becoming more and more--dare I say it--one. Harry, perhaps, sees the
Threstrals because Voldemort, and not Harry, has actually seen death--
and so many times, too.

Now, even as I write this, I am arguing with myself over whether this
explains things or not. I mean, Dumbledore believes LV had not
realized his affective connection with Harry (or at least not the
full extent of it) until Harry witnessed the attack on Arthur
Weasley. But, if we think about it, Harry started having the dreams
about the corridor and the door during the summer. And, unless I read
wrong, canon suggested that those dreams were supposed to be
Voldemort's attempts to--oh! here comes my word again--"tamper" with
Harry's mind.

So, if we presume that it is Voldemort and not Harry who has actually
*seen* death and that Harry sees the Threstrals because the
connection between he and Voldemort has strengthened, then it would
make sense that Harry doesn't see the threstrals at the end of year 4
but does in fact see them at the start of year 5.

But maybe I'm reaching here...probably because there are parts of
Book 5 that are eating at me more than these unnerving Thestrals. But
I don't know if I am ready to discuss those parts yet--the pain of
losing Sirius is still too much for me to examine the book a second
time.

~Jaimee, who knew the whole time that it was going to be Sirius and
reacted with quite the same anger as Harry showed in Dumbledore's
office (except mine was silent and less distructive--I simply
screamed and cursed at JKR in my mind...didn't think it would be a
good idea to be loud an wake up my roomate!)

Oh! and PS. Is it so hard to believe that Harry didn't actually *see*
Lily die?...I mean, he was only a baby, possibly placed in a crib or
something at the time...and there is no canon evidence that Harry
remembers seeing anything at all the night of his parents' murders.
The dementors allow him to remember the sounds, but not the
sights...and I always thought the green light he saw in his dreams
was Voldemort's AK for Harry and not Lily...again, I could be
reaching here...
