If he had gotten hold of the prophecy, he would have known right away 
that Dumbledore couldn't kill him...only Harry.  He wouldn't fear 
Dumbledore anymore.  He might have marched right into Hogwarts with 
an Avada Kedavra.  Now, Harry has a little more time to prepare...
