aja_1991:
I've posted before (eons ago, it seems...) on the concept that
something other than magic will be Voldemort's downfall. I'm more
certain of that now. The prophecy, and all the different
charms/countercharms seem to cancel out who would win a duel... in
fact, they can't duel, unless one of them gets a different, which
means it might not be a wand that chooses them and not be as
powerful, so...

After reading the scenes in which Harry senses that he *is* the
serpent, or he *is* Voldemort, I think that this power will be the
deciding factor. It is clearly not something that requires a wand,
or even close proximity, to operate.

In the end, it simply comes down to a battle of wills. Who is
tougher mentally? Will Harry crack first, and the Boy Who Lived, who
possesses such huge quantities of Love that Voldemort can't stand it,
will go over to the dark side and no longer "survive" as Harry
Potter? Or will Harry's love win the day, and the being known as
Voldemort will go away, leaving Tom Riddle capable of experiencing,
and wanting to experience, love?

In this, I think Snape, who is clearly gifted in ... rats, don't have
the book (already being read by someone else!), but the "mind
reading"/"mind reading defense" spells, will be a key. Which means,
of course, that Snape may well be a goner in book six... it's nice to
get rid of those role models and/or teachers. Dumbledore takes over
the lessons, and early in book 7 heads through the Black Veil. Then
it's Harry versus Voldemort. Who will win? Tough to guess, but
Harry seems pretty tough and Voldemort very patient, so guessing the
longer it goes on, the more it favors the bad guy. Somehow, though,
I think Wormtail will do something noble which will help crack
Voldemort, and Tom Riddle will return - the "Dark Lord" will not
survive. Wormtail must do something because Dumbledore, though
revealed as flawed, did say that one day Harry would be very glad he
saved Wormtail's life. We're still waiting on that day. (Where
*was* Peter in OotP, anyway?)
