What about Snape having to keep up his nasty "Death Eater" 
performance for the sake of being Dumbledore's spy?  
That "performance" could explain his "favoritism" toward Draco.  
Actually, by being extra harsh on Neville and Harry may help make 
them become stronger, more hardened wizards.  Snape knows full well 
what the Death Eaters are like.  Now with this 5th book, so do we.  

I believe Snape's underlying hatred for Harry is possibly a love he 
had for Lily.  He might be bitter that Harry was not his own son.  
Again, his being extra hard on Harry and Neville is probably tougher 
training demanded of the two wizard boys that could possibly defeat 
Voldemort.

I'm anxious for replies.
