"Actually, since seeing JKR interviewed by Katie Couric (is that how you
spell it?) I sincerely doubt that RW and HG is gonna happen. Rowling's such
a Scrooge with pre-publication details that when she
answered KC's question about a future for HP/HG by saying something like
'HP/HG? Really? You see those two together?? RW/HG maybe, that seems much
more likely...' I immediately thought 'Oh, RW/HG is dead as dead'."
Well, I watched and taped that interview. There is a transcript posted on
the MSN website, but it's not complete. I just ran upstairs and cued up my
tape and made a small transcript about the part you're referring to:
*******Dateline Interview 6/20/03*********
Katie Couric: Any snogging with Hermione?
J.K. Rowling: (look of repulsion)- Hermione & Harry? You really think so?
Katie Couric: (laughing) No, I'm kidding.
J.K. Rowling: Ron & Hermione...I would say have the more tension there.
At first glance, there's not ALOT of R/Hr action happening, but I've gone
back and revisted several moments in the book, and there is alot of subtle
stuff happening. I'm not going to list it all, but basically Ron's character
had to grow up a little. Before the beginning of this book, he lacked
confidence. Coming from a family where he is the youngest (and in his eyes,
the least impressive) he felt he had something to prove. He just needed a
chance and the realization that you have to work for the things you want in
life...not just hope they appear. Hermione wants Ron to grow up and realize.
At least that's my perspective....Can someone back me up? Besides, that's
why I think Dumbledore made Ron a prefect...to show someone has confidence
in him.
But back to the J.K. Rowling interview, she doesn't normally give out many
details. And she never lies. She said Harry was very angry in this book, he
was very angry. (VERY! ;o) ). She said Harry would go through various
teenage rights of passage...and he did. Besides, she's said in previous
interviews about the "something" that's developing between R/Hr. Only that
Ron was "too clueless" to realize it yet. I honestly think, he's finally
getting a clue. (slowly...but surely)
I thought H/Hr was totally shot down in OotP. They spent a lot of time
together, but there was just nothing there...other than friendly. And
because Harry was so caught up in his own world, he didn't have time to
decipher the R/Hr hints along the way. We don't KNOW for sure what any of
the other characters are thinking really. It's all from Harry's POV, so
unless some states it explictly...it's always an inferring game.

"Lets see H/Hr moments: Cho jealous over "darliing Hermione" and his talking
about her "very often" (said in Viktor Krum voice". Hermione's frown when
Harry confirms that Cho kissed him.) "
I think that Cho was really blinded there. Hermione has been Harry's friend
for a long time. She must be pretty clueless not to realize that. Besides,
Cho was trying to make Harry jealous/mad...show some emotion. She was
playing games with him. Mentioning Hermione like that was a means to an end.
Also, the frown you're referring to on page 458 US edition (I have the book
in front of me)
Hermione wasn't frowning at Harry, she was frowning at Ron. Ron just dumped
his ink bottle all over the rug (in reaction to Harry's news). Besides,
Hermione was Harry's biggest Cho supporter. It didn't seem like she was
jealous at all.
