If you all think that James neednt have died, why is the whole of Harry's 
family dead.  And Voldemort said to Harry 'You mother needn't of died' (I dont 
remember if this was book 1 or 4?) he couldnt spare her because she wouldnt give 
up Harry.  He would of left her there if she let Harry go.  Since he told her 
to 'step aside'.  I dont think he randomly kills people unless they are in 
his way such as Frank Bryce and that bagshot woman (I have completely forgotten 
her name).  Lily was in his way, and from Harry's flash back with Dementors it 
was quite evident that Voldemort would of spared Lily if she just gave up her 
son.  (not much to ask you know!?) *rolls eyes*
Why did Voldemort say 'Your Mother neednt of died' if, also, James neednt 
have died.  He would of said 'Your parents neednt of died'.
