to be witnessed, or just someone you know? Is seeing the person
dead - like at a funeral - enough?

First off, I'm new to this group, having just finished OotP I was
positively drooling to discuss it. Just wanted to say hello, and its
good to be able to talk with people about this wonderful new addition
to the Potter-verse.
I'd have to say that he wasn't developed enough to have seen his
mother die. Seeing the thestrals would probably require the child be
able to remember the event happening. It certainly is an interesting
question to ponder.
Another good one is, who has Nevile seen die? His parents didn't
die, and he would have been around the same age as Harry when they
were attacked, so that doesn't fit. Whoever Neville saw die it could
be important later on. Of course, I'm gonna give the book a second
read through, Neville may have told who he saw die, and I've just
forgotten. Gonna make a list of things like this that bother me, and
read it through a second time to see if I just missed something.
