I also liked Luna (certainly more than Ginny... unless Ginny starts
taking over from where Fred and George left off) - especially the
empathy which Harry seems to share with her with respect to being a
bit of an outcast. I thought that her ridiculousness (the Griffindor
lion hat, for example) and her obliviousness to others reactions to
her, were quite poignant, when in her final conversation with Harry,
we realise that she is sensitive and perceptive as to how others
perceive her. Her little interaction also served to demonstrate
that Harry, though superficially resembling James (about which much
is made by Harry and others throughout the whole series), is also
Lily's child. As we saw in Snape's pensieve, 15 year-old James (I'm
not even going to attempt to defend him) would have joined in with
the others and ridiculed her whereas one can imagine Lily
demonstrating the compassion that Harry did. On the otherhand - had
Harry NOT seen (and been disillusioned by) the pensieve, he may not
have acted any diffently.

Perhaps, like Lupin, she too is a werewolf . . . Luna remember!

Me:
Very astute point about Luna & her house allocation - I think that
she is an intelligent, highly sensitive person whose seen more than
the ordinary Hogwarts student. JKR is constantly teaching the
readers to look beyond the superficial (Harry's relationship with
Cho is one example, I believe) - there's no way that Luna will end
up being "Loony" for the rest of the book.

It's amazing what you hear when people think that you're the
shy, "quiet" one ...

And I think that it's obvious that she's got a thing for Harry!
Actually, I really do like her more than Ginny (go figure)...
