Me:
It does appear that Lucius has been unable to extricate himself from
criminal charges (not that he'd particularly want to, given who now
stalks the lands) - Draco could see this as something to be ashamed
of but his reaction, and anger towards Harry makes me certain that
this event will galvanise his march towards the Death Eater camp. I
daresay that in "good" wizarding society, Lucius will be seen as a
hero and even martyr, someone for Draco to emulate.

I am personally very curious as to exactly *why* Draco's mother
would agree to him going back to Hogwarts in light of what has
happened (and will happen). Some home schooling in the Dark Arts by
dear old Uncle Rodulphus would be more productive than going off to
Hogwarts to be the Syltherin Seeker for another year (if Drumstrangs
is not an option). .

Me:
Does it take great courage or great cowardice to become a Death
Eater? They attack the defenseless (AKA "us Muggles"), run away when
outnumbered (no heroics) and appear to be very shadowy and slippery
when cornered . I think that the first "real" Death Eaters that we
some across (the truly fanatical supporters) are the Lestranges -
with Bellatrix as the archetype (though I was personally more
disturbed by the quiet sadism of Dolores Umbridge). Besides which,
it would take *true* courage (in the vein of Harry, Dumbledore and
dare I say, a former Death Eater) to resist the lure of Voldemort
rather than succumb to it.

Finally, let's consider the many branches of Draco's recently
illuminated family tree...

His Dad is a Death Eater (DE).
His Aunt Bella is a (fairly heavy-duty) DE.
His Uncle Rodulphus is a DE.
His first Cousin Regelus was a DE.
His best friend's fathers are DEs.

On the other side, you have the shunned Tonks branch of the family
(but I suspect that they wouldn't have been talked about in good
company).

Me:
Snape, Snape (& more Snape) . . .though I think that Draco considers
him as only a slightly more higher educated servant (doing his
fathers bidding), I can *just* imagine Draco being the one who
discovers his house masters secret and runs off to Voldemort & co.
to tell - (I'm bizarrely reminded of the "Kurt betraying the von
Trapps" scene from "Sound of Music") !

Personally, I'm disappointed Draco has not shown a *single*
redeeming trait in the new book and I agree with the view that he
has (quite disappointingly) almost become an even greater caricature
than dare I say, "Dudders". I challenge anyone to redeem him now,
given his character development (or lack of) more than halfway in
the series.
