Good grief, it's taken me forever to get through all my
HPfGU mail, let alone reply to anything. :)

I find myself growing tired of the continuing Slytherin
caricature. In a book that is progressively darker in tone
and focused more on motivations and politics (not to mention
the Sorting Hat song), I just found it disappointing.

And while I wouldn't call it "redeeming" him, I have never
really thought that Draco would become a DE. He seems very
much taken with (that is, what he perceives as) his own
importance. He also seems to have a sort of hero worship for
his father. Frankly, I just don't see Draco going along with
the kowtowing that Voldemort requires. Once he sees what
Voldemort actually is (let's face it--not an attractive
guy), I can't see him joining the DEs. He wants power, yeah,
but I don't think he wants it at the expense of being
subservient to someone else.

Not that I think he'll become a good guy and work for
Dumbledore, or anything. I don't see that happening, either.
If he rejects Voldemort, it'll be for his own reasons and
not because he suddenly thinks Muggles and Muggle-borns are
great. He'll still be a little prat, full of himself and
everything, he just won't be an evil DE.
