Sharai & other Petunia-ites,

I confess that my affection for Mrs. Dursley rises quite a lot from
the fact that her actress, Fiona Shaw, is my favorite in the world,
and I hope that Petunia is a witch so that we see more Ms. Shaw!

It would also be a nifty plot twist, later in the books, for Harry to
discover that there are even more shades of gray between the muggle
and magical worlds. That an apparent muggle-aunt has been involved
in the magical world.

THAT SAID....from Book 1, I have suspected that Petunia is no muggle.

Proofs (in my tiny mind):

1. From book 1: She took the orphan in. A woman totally opposed to,
and entirely fearful of the wizarding world would not have cared if
he went to an orphanage or foster care.

2. From book 1: She speaks bitterly of the favored status Lily had
because of Lily's witchery. True, this could be the typical envy
(like that of the ugly child for the pretty one) but it could *also*
be that of the child who had her chance to study magic and failed or
rejected it. I'm not saying this is a definite. It just fits my
hopes!!!! 8-D

3. From book 5: As already mentioned, Dumbledore seems to know her.
*She* knows about Azkaban and the dementors.

4. From book 5: She definitely is the brains of the Dursleys, the
opinion leader. *She* has, over 15 years, defined the family's
attitude toward Harry's magical status, determined the neglect and
abuse which he should have in a (futile) attempt to wear the magic
out of him. Only someone familiar with magic would have a clue as
how to do this.

5. From book 5: Dumbledore tells her to "remember my last." It sounds
as though they have communicated more than just the night of Harry's
deposit upon the doorstep.

Feel free to dismiss and/or argue. If I'm entirely wrong, I have a
backup plan: Rent more of Ms. Shaw's other films! lol .... but I do
think it would be a nifty twist to have Petunia not 100% muggle.
