Here comes one of my pet-theories, beware!
I believe that Arthur Weasley is going to become Minister of Magic.
To back this up, I rely heavily on historical simile, which some of
you might vehemently disagree with. Here goes anyway:
Cornelius Fudge I equate to Neville Chamberlain: The British PM who
could not believe that Hitler was really meaning war, and went to
great lengths to ignore the growing threat of Nazi-Germany. He rose
to power through concession-politics after a solid but unremarkable
career, and found that his love for his office outweighed his will to
be bold and dare to believe that Germany was alive and kicking again.
In this simile, then, I compare Arthur Weasley to Winston Churchill.
This comparison is a whole lot less solid, but it holds /some/
ground. Churchill was a scion of an old noble family, who enjoyed the
company of commoners a lot more than that of nobility. This had held
back his rise in the halls of power for quite some time (he dropped
his title to be able to enter the House of Commons, amongst others.)
He wasn't involved in any serious way with the 1st War, but saw
Hitler for what he was immediately and was one of the lone voices in
parliament to support action against Hitler. He was vastly popular
and well-known amongst most other political figures, and became PM
when Chamberlain resigned in May 1940. (Chamberlain ignored Hitler's
threat in '36-'39, most notably in Munich in '38. He /did/ see reason
and declared war on Germany on Sep.3rd 1939. He resigned in May after
collosal failures in Norway and died shortly afterwards).
Now, this might not be much, but I've believed that Arthur should be
MoM from before I had this simile: You see, the Weasleys are poor
people who do their best for the wizarding world and, in this form of
literature at least, there is some good behavior which definitely
calls for reward. Arthur is also, indeed, very well-known and liked
by most of the Ministry-staff and has more clout than we give him
credit for. His love for Muggles has held him back, but I do believe
that we will see Arthur move up the ladders of power rapidly in this
upcoming war, especially seeing as to his unique position regarding
the Ministry, the Order, Dumbledore and Harry.
Interested in y'all's opinions I remain,
Alon.
(off for some food. I've been at this for too long!)
