I don't really see why there has to be a point. There is no point to 
death, a death is never justified. The only way to find a point is to 
think in literary, author mode to find the point that helps the plot 
best. If we are looking for a point from within the story, from 
Harry's point of view, we are not going to find it. We might find 
some good that comes from it, Harry will have to mature and grow from 
it, but I don't think Harry will ever find a point, a reason 
compelling enough to be worth the loss. That is the nature of death.
