i've been wondering about the future career choice thing, too,
though only when i'm not STILL moping and despondent
over the death of a !#$&@$* fictional character (argh). i sort
of agree that while there *are* lots of exceptionally special people
that make a living being Aurors, it did seem a little too
one-in-a-crowd,
or more specifically a little too obvious, at first. not that being a
teacher, particularly DADA and particularly at Hogwarts, is similarly
ordinary, but as with Dumbledore, i see that as being a
later-in-life type of thing.

i have a funny feeling that by the time Harry is finished with his
epic heroic vanquishing of Voldy, he probably won't want to do
anything much more mentally taxing than playing Quidditch for
England for a few years. i can't really see JKR doing this at the
end of an epic battle, however, and since she's likely not going
to be following Harry's exploits years post-Hogwarts (that's
what fanfiction is for!), she's got to come up with something,
or why bother having brought it up so specifically in OOP?

i really like the Department of Mysteries idea -- seems like even
after all is said and done, Harry is still going to need a LOT of
questions answered, and i was surprised to learn that the
DoM has something of a research function. this is an interesting
concept, and I see Harry doing something unique and mysterious,
as I still believe he has talents that go beyond those given to him
by Voldy's choice to mark him rather than Neville. and hey, perhaps
after Harry saves the world, the forces of evil and fighting Dark
wizards won't be the most pressing thing on everyone's mind? :>
