(Can you tell I loved studying Shakespeare and his times?)
The word "Wizengamot" looks like a direct ripoff of the Anglo-Saxon "Witangemot" (meeting of wise men) that was kinda-sorta a "Parliament" in pre-Norman-Conquest times. ("Mot" is like "moot," as in "Ent-moot" in LOTR; the modern version is "meet")
This points us to a pre-Conquest origin of the Wizard World's separate government from the Muggle world; it just so happened that there wasn't enough Norman influence on the WW to get the word changed. Could it have been that the Anglo-Saxon wizards were either more powerful or more socially influential than their Norman counterparts? Or that not very many wizards and witches crossed the Channel with William the Bastard? (A Slytherin type with a very strong Gryffindor streak if ever I saw one, he was)
Oh, and I have got to say that the nasty characters in every book that are _not_ DEs have gotten steadily nastier and more malicious. I thought I loathed Rita Skeeter, and now compared to Dolores Umbridge, little Rita's not that bad a sort, now is she?
And I think I know what they could do to V'mort that would be worse than death:
Lord Voldemort stirred, feeling his head. _What in Merlin's name was I DRINKING last night? These Dark Revels are getting to be too much for me..._ he thought. Then he noticed that he wasn't alone in bed.
As he looked to see who or what was in there, Dolores Umbridge sat up, giving him a melting look. "Oh, Lord, last night was _sensational!_ It was so romantic of you to insist that we run away and elope together! Tell me, darling, was it good for you, too? And what do you think we should name the first baby?" She held up her hand, and Voldemort recognized the ring on the third finger of her left hand as the one he had always worn. Dolores sighed. "Mrs. Voldemort. Lady Voldemort. It still hardly seems real. All that passion...who'd have thought you were good for so many times in just one night?"
The scream alone would be SOOOO worth it...*evil sadistic laughter*
But if I made this happen, I'd probably have _Dumbledore_ out to lynch me..."He's _only_ Voldemort! How could you do such a thing to my poor little ex-pupil?"
--Eric, who would probably want to claw his eyes out if he ever saw Umbridge without her clothes...
