I agree, but for different reasons. JKR would never kill off Ron or
Hermione, their friendship is too central to the story, and Harry
needs them - although the book is titled "Harry Potter" but it is
really the three friends who carry it. Hagrid is a possibility...

I was disappointed about Sirius's death because it really did not
make sense. There was just nothing leading up to it. I hear it is
important in book 6, I say it better be. On the other hand, we are
too used to nobody we care of being hurt in books, or films. I think
JKR showed that she can create a real world with real dangers partly
by not being afraid to bring death to a "children's" story, although
at this point I don't think they are children's stories any more.

I thought for a while it was Dumbledore who gets killed off - that
would create a real power vacuum where Harry would have to grow into,
and all the characters have to unite to conquer Voldemort. But as
the story grew and Dumbledore's authority was a key, I figured that
won't happen. Maybe in the 7th book. Not that I want it to happen,
but if someone must die, it would make sense.
