I didn't think so. Over achiever as always, yes. Too bright and thus inclined
to blunders here and there, some more serious than others, yes, but that's
Murphy's Law.
I'm re-reading the book, and just read the part where Tonks says she was
never one for housholdy spells. Made me wonder how well does Hermione get potatoes
peeled... Because as someone sort of bright at school but who never really
was any good at knitting, I simply adored Hermy's lack of succes in making an
elf hat look different from a sock, even after months of attempt... and
supposedly with magical help in the end. Not that Dobby minds...
I've come across very intelligent people, especially at college, people who
read hundreds of feet of papers in less time than it took me to understand a
political theory 10-page chapter, people who effortlessy managed to compare
theories and remember extensive quotes from books I found extremely boring, and
who then proceeded to write parchments, sorry, papers several feet thick while
most people were still trying to decypher their own class notes. People who not
only work hard but also really understand stuff, and show us that if you do
get a head start (instead of sitting around in the October sun trying to get
the last tan of the year, or playing hung man in class - though I myself used to
write poetry and funny comments on everybody's clothes), you can actually
find homework not really that hard.
Remember she's had four years of more reading and studying than the others.
She's a Muggle, so she's not confined to Lockhart and the Daily Prophet's Dear
Abby. She has two cultures to learn from (even if both her parents ARE
dentists, and then supposedly the most boring people in the world...), and she's
curious and bright enough to grab them both (here I'm thinking on her extended
thery knowledge of boy meets girl and makes a mess of himself because he's not
even from Mars but from a tiny moon). Actually, that she had that thing for
Lockhart shows us, in a very hem hem way, she's not really that perfect, but
simply just another girl - who has a very high IQ. But she doesn't strike me as
half a nerd as she could.
I think that she made it to PREfect is a nice way of telling us she actually
is not PERfect... but then maybe I'm taking analisys too far... :)
Cristina (who still likes Ginny best, but feels that Ginny is such a good
mate with Hermione, the girl must really be ... well... real...)
