...How do we know that he hates Lupin for being a werewolf?  We know 
he hates Lupin, we know Lupin is a werewolf, and we know that Snape 
is not too keen for the students of Hogwarts to know about his 
personal dealings with the Marauders, but I don't get that he 
actually hates Lupin *because* he's a werewolf.

Your thoughts gave me a theory (long shot) about why this whole 
thing happened.  What if Snape *is* spying for the Order but LV 
thinks he's a loyal DE.  And... what if LV expected Snape to use his 
lessons with HP to *open* Harry's mind, rather than close it?  So 
what if Snape deliberately lured Harry into doing something that 
would justify the lessons being suspended?
