Actually, I knew someone very like Luna Lovegood in public school, in
grade 6, in fact. She wore black robes (really), read adult fiction
(the latest bestsellers in 1972) and did odd things, like write
initials in the sand at recess and claim they were the initials of
the person she would eventually marry. She was odd, smart, pretty,
and ostracized. But her family moved alot, and she stayed at our
country school less than a year. I quite liked her, and she was
certainly memorable.
Thought the black-robed girl when reading earlier HP books. She does
indeed provide some relief from scholarly, rational Hermione, angsty
(now) Harry, and good ole everyman Ron.
And which of us doesn't know (or hasn't dated) a Tonks of some
calibre or another, with pleasant memories?
