I'm not sure if this has been replied to yet, so let me take a stab at
ti. The fountain's lie was the statues and what the implied as to wizard
society. You have the tall, pure MALE wizard as the cream of the crop, the ideal
to which all others, even the witch, look up to. Harry comments...sorry don't
have the book handy...about how from what he knows of centaurs or goblins, none
of them would show that degree of worship to a wizard. And the water flowing
from the ears of the house-elf was just downright disturbing.
Cheryl the Lynx, who cheered when the fountain blew up....
