I just had a brain wave.  Or more likely a brain cramp, when joining 
in on the discussion of the Black house and who might inherit it.  

In one of Mrs. Black's rants, she says something along the lines of 
how horrible it is that these vile creaturs and blood traitors, etc. 
are besmirching the house of her fathers.  That implies to me that 12 
Grimmauld Place came to the Black family via marriage from her side 
of the union.  

We never learn Mrs. Black's name.  Wouldn't it be an interesting 
twist if her maiden name was Snape? 

Now, probably not likely, since, when Harry and Sirius were looking 
at the tapestry of the Black lineage, Harry's eye was drawn to the 
blasted-out hole where Sirius' name used to be.  You'd think he'd  
notice the name "Snape" in close proximity to that spot if that was 
indeed Mum Black's maiden name.

But, maybe that's why Sirius immediately started drawing Harry's 
attention to other names on the tapestry...
