That's 14 years he's been teaching...
Apart from the apparent dangers of the job (maybe DD just didn't want 
to risk Snape's life?), it could be a way to show to the outside that 
Snape & DD aren't sharing a trustful relationship. I mean, someone 
like Umbridge got suspicious, everyone else is talking about it.

Plus, I think that the reason why DD trusts Snape, what Snape did to 
gain the implicit trust despite all the DE things he did - that this 
reason is maybe a key to the DADA position question.
