Just a few rambling thoughts.
I found the death of Sirius to be more intense sad
and disturbing because of its simplicity. Except for
illness, deaths are like this one minute alive then
dead. Harry had no reason to expect it. Just like a
car accident or a random robbery ending in murder.
Your loved one is alive then dead. The pain is much
more than from a long illness. I've lost loved ones
both ways and the sudden out of the blue senseless
death is so much harder with which to cope. I thought
it was perfectly written.JKR tossed out so many
teasers of others deaths I wasn't ready for it. After
Molly's bogart I was sure a Weasley was doomed, then
Arthur lived. At the time of Sirius' death I had
McGonagall on my mind I was still worried she was the
one tapped to die. When it was a red bolt of light I
expected him to be stunned and out of the fight not
dead. The fall through the veil of death was such a
stunning suprise I didn't really come to grips with it
for awhile. I had to stop reading and compose my mind
before moving on.
As far as the story line I remember multiple posts
prior to OOP saying someone had to die as a direct
result of Harry's actions for him to learn the moral
lesson needed. I see that in this. He was the reason
Sirius was there. He has to come to grips with not
just the death but with his own guilt.
