I think your first point will take more thought than I have given it 
to answer -- so I'll leave it to the experts of this board!

As to the Two-Way Mirror -- JKR doesn't put interesting things in 
there for no good reason, and I'll bet a nickel that the mirror turns 
up somewhere in 6 and 7.  Harry smashed the mirror but didn't throw 
out the pieces, so as far as I can see they're still in his trunk.  
He was able to repair the bowl of murtlap tentacles he broke 
(hmmm . . . but not refill the bowl . . . is this foreshadowing, or 
simply an illustration of not crying over spilled milk? . . . sorry, 
just thinking aloud here), will he keep the pieces of the mirror and 
repair them?

If the dead (not ghosts) can appear in portraits, why not in mirrors, 
too?
