Interesting points.  I could see that happening, too.  YOu are right, 
Lupin is strongly set up for dying - just like Sirius, who did not 
seem to have a good way out of his situation, Lupin's life is pretty 
much pointless, too - being a werewolf, he can't get a job, he does 
not seem to have many chances for a wife or a family, and only 
Dumbledore trusts him but he cannot employ him publicly.  He 
definitely has strong feelings about Peter and I could see him trying 
to kill him and dying in the attempt.

Peter will definitily have a big role, trying to save Harry's life 
sometime later, possibly trying to redeem himself, too.  He did not 
seem too prepared for what it means to be the Dark Lord's servant.
