OoP: Lack of Snape

Did anyone else notice that Snape is lacking in the "normal" places in OoP?  
I know there's alot of Snape in Potions and in the lessons he's giving Harry, 
but Snape isn't in the Great Hall anytime they're in there.  When Professor 
Umbridge is giving his speech, there's no mention of the "sallow faced, hook 
nosed professor of potions" anywhere.  Does anyone else find that odd?  Snape has 
to be there, because HRH would've commented on the fact that their least 
favorite professor was missing.  Any ideas on why JRK left him out of those 
situations?
