The first time I read it through I felt something akin to
disappointment. Books 1-4 were so much fun to read, and reading OotP
was somewhat depressing. I didn't start enjoying it until the
Weasley twins let loose their attack on Umbridge, and even then the
book seemed depressing with occasional bouts of levity. I am happy
to report that I'm finding the book much more enjoyable the second
time around, so I imagine that I've adjusted to the new tone of the
book.
OotP lacks the innocence that the first 4 books somehow retained up
to the point of GoF's third task. Harry's changing, and the books
are following in his wake. It just took some time for me to
acclimate to the new Angry!Harry.
