I think this view is likely to coincide with mine. Question: Is it
written, explicitly and unambiguously, ANYWHERE in the canon that
The Evans Family were Muggles?
I theorize that Mr. & Mrs. Evans were once two Squibs in love and,
being all Squibbly, chose to make their life among the Muggles.
Petunia (whom I GUESS is the oldest), having apparently inherited
the Squibbiness, likes the Muggle Life (much like the children of
immigrants like to embrace the new country and discard the old ways)
and wants nothing more than to be The Uber-Muggle.
Then along comes Lily, and she's actually a witch. Mr. & Mrs. Evans
are overjoyed and consider Lily the "perfect" one, whereas Petunia,
the one who dreams of Muggle Perfection sees Lily, the one who is a
constant reminder of a world Petunia would love to forget, as a
freak.
Just another 2 knuts,
